TDC #30: Disneyland Records

We’re gonna turn it on! We’re gonna bring you the power!

This week, we’re having another saunter down Memory Lane, this time to those vinyl LPs that some of us grew up with, and especially those from Disneyland Records. We’ll listen to a few nursery rhymes, enjoy songs from The Electric Company and Mickey Mouse Disco, and well, just plain chat.

And, um yeah, about that Tinkerbell record that Jennifer promised everybody a picture of? Well, here’s the best picture she could get…it was almost as if Tink were fricking with the camera settings somehow, refusing to be photographed.

Just. Plain. Wrong.

Just. Plain. Wrong.

TDCS #28: The Lisa Show!

When Cat #1’s away, Cat #2 shall play? That’s probably what you all will be thinking after listening to this week’s show….. In my own defense, I’d first like to say that the wacky (and somewhat profane) audio snippets you hear ARE indeed actual Disneyana – yes, that’s really Jack Wagner -The Voice of Disney -and Paul Frees (I think) (who i always confuse with Stan Freberg, but I digress) talking crazy and dropping the occasional F-bomb on those Disney bits interspersed through out the show… Actually maybe it is all Jack!!

pirate  Then, I have the pleasure of talking with the Matt Hochberg about the Disney cruising experience! MouseFest is nearing – will you be on the cruise as well?

Finally, in a monumentous moment digitally captured forever, our Jennifer sets aside the lumbar pack… for now!!!!

TDC#27: Listener Feedback

It’s our second listener feedback show! This week we read some letters, talk to the Watchamacallit about High School Musical 3, announce a third Those Darn Cats MouseFest Meet, and throw in a couple classic Disneyland radio ads.

Download the episode here, or subscribe via iTunes or RSS

After listening to the Watchamacallit’s comments, you can be sure that Jennifer’s gonna go to the HSM3 pep rally at Disney’s Hollywood Studios during MouseFest, so that he doesn’t have to suffer through attending it with her next time they’re at WDW together!

And hey Jon: Jennifer forgot to say that no, she’s never seen Where the Red Fern Grows…. but now she knows not to! (Hey Lisa, have you seen it?) And she couldn’t find a picture of the tiny little people from Mulholland Drive…but please trust her, they are super creepy!

TDC#25 All About the Worldly Wonder Pets!

credit to urch’s flickr stream!

So the Cats have a soft spot for our own furry children- it’s true! Though we won’t be traveling to the World with our furry family members anytime soon, Bryan Ripper from All About the Mouse joins us to discuss the ins and outs of bringing your dogs – and maybe other creatures? – to the kennels on property. For further info on this subject and the upcoming changes, you might want to check out some of these links:

Fourtunately, the Wonder Pets are around to help save a puppy in need of those thrice daily kennel walks, the Watchamacallit rejoins us to briefly discuss our stay at the Nickelodeon Hotel in Orlando, and Jeff W. kicks things off with a song sure to get you in the Halloween spirit!

Hurry back and leave us your comments and go by iTunes and leave us a review!

Happy Halloween and Dios de los Muertos!

TDC#24 Breakdown!

NOTE: Upon listening to the posted version, mine was missing about 2 minutes off the end of the podcast. I am reposting now, so if you experience techincal difficulties, try down loading again! Sorry!!

Here, kitty kitty kitty!!  This week, Geoff Carter from Your Souvenir Guide (who has apparently snuck of to Disneyland as we speak) rejoins the Cats in an impromptu discussion of park attraction breakdowns. Seems like, between Pirates, HM and the People Mover, we’ve done more than our share of time waiting for a reboot…

After our discussion, check out some park audio featuring the Watchamacallit, Space Mountain with the lights on, cranky spirits and a safari ride from last years MouseFest! Listen closely and you may hear some of the Disney Podcasting/Meet Elite hooting and hollering (no blindfolds were used in the making of this audio).

In the spirit of breakdowns, Trace of Texas sent the Cats this photo (above) showing DL’s TOT haunted hallway with the lights on. This is taken from the ride vehicle looking out into that hallway that fades from waving haunted characters to twinkly lights of the twilight zone before sucking you up again for a perilous ride! Apparently, the riders were herded off the elevator car by ramp (after being admonished not to take any MORE photographs, thank you very much) but had to watch their steps as apparently the surface of the rug and floor you see are all embedded with fragile fiber optic lights! Oooooh neato!

Have you been stuck on a ride or attraction? Got any interesting photographic evidence? Write us and tell us about it! Likewise, if you want to contribute to “Poetry Corner” – send in your original verses! As always, send suggestions feedback to us at: podcast@thosedarncats.net . And do check out iTunes and leave us a big thumbs up!!

TDC 23 – Guilty Podcasters Unite!

Nobody can possibly know everything about Disney, right? Well, except maybe that Mongello guy, and Scopa since he’s had soooo long to learn it all. But hey, one of us Cats has a bit of a guilty conscience, and we at Those Darn Cats are all about sharing from the depts of our hearts.

Download the episode here, or subscribe via iTunes or RSS

We also have our first ever Poetry Corner – if YOU have an original Disney inspired poem, please share it!!! Then, the Wachamacallit reminisces about Buzz Lightyear’s sarcastic attitude problem, and we invite you all to join us at MouseFest 2008 for two Those Darn Cats Meets:

Rumor has it we shall even have a minion in attendance for the meets….and really, who doesn’t need a minion around?

TDC #22 – On the Front Lines

I’m not sure why I love this cartoon so much…I only know I do. Minnie and Pluto saving their bacon grease to help the war effort? Gotta love that, especially when you know Mickey’s out there on the front lines.

In this week’s Those Darn Cats, Jennifer discusses Walt Disney Treasures: On the Front Lines with Collateral Damage, a military history expert, who also happens to be her spouse. (The Wachamacallit chimes in now and then, of course!)

Download the episode here, or subscribe through iTunes or RSS

We also enjoy a random little moment of live park audio…and birthday wishes for our own dear Lisa! In fact, we kinda sorta gave her the week off, given that it’s her birthday and all….but not to worry, she’ll be back next week for sure.

Of course, it would be way more fun to wish her Happy BIrthday in person, back at the Crystal Palace with that fabulous CM Jack!

Memories, light the corners of my mind…..

And hey, you did catch that fabulous intro, right? Once again, by none other than our great friend Jeff W! Head on over to Lisa’s DisFriends page, and you can watch the even-more-fabulous Rebel Briefing Film Strip version! Continue reading

TDC #20 – Kungaloosh! Hoopla!

Wasn’t it just last week we were bidding a sad farewell to DisFriends? But alas, now we say goodbye to Adventurers Club. Lisa and I are especially sad that we never went! But our friend Geoff Carter of Your Souvenir Guide was kind enough to share with us about his happy times there.

We also bring in a whole other kind of hoopla – Hyperspace Hoopla! Lisa captured some live park audio last June at Star Wars Weekends, so we can do a little hyperspace hustle.

Now, one particular little note: Despite Jennifer’s best attempts, she did not find any evidence of the Kungaloosh Salute on YouTube! So hey, is there anybody out there willing to record a little salute from the privacy of their own home, and send us a link to the video?

And hey, as it turns out DisFriends won’t be shutting down after all: Check out this message on the site from Trent! Woo hoo! So hey, can we work a little magic here and get Adventurers Club back too?

Also following up on last week’s show….our buddy Hayden dropped me a note with a little technical tip, and I created a basic Those Darn Cats page on FaceBook. I haven’t figured out how to link to it directly…but if you’re on FaceBook, just search for Those Darn Cats and you’ll find us!

TDC#18: A Room of Minnie’s Own

Minnie's to-do list, found on Costanza13's Flickr stream

oes your to-do list look anything like this? If so, then honey, you need to get out more often!!

This week, our friend Eliyanna joins us for a feminist critique of Minnie Mouse’s Country House, with its diet cookies and Cosmousepolitan and all.

She also pointed us to the Minnie’s Country House page at Researching Disney History: Observations, a web site that is now on Jennifer’s must-read list.

Oh, and about that song Femininity…while Lisa is already a font of Haley Mills knowledge, Jennifer really must watch Summer Magic, because she is curious how it all plays out.  How much is tongue-in-cheek, and how much is for real? This YouTube clip gives some context, but clearly she needs more.

Sigh….as if the Netflix queue wasn’t already long enough, what with all those gory Japanese thrillers and all! At least there is no need to watch tear-jerkers, like Old Yeller or Grave of the Fireflies.

And oh yeah, about that funky boogie train? If you have no idea what Jennifer and the Wachamacallit were talking about, Broke Hoedown’s got you covered.

(And say, did anybody else just lose the game?)

UPDATE: Lisa here – i have never even heard that crazy song! Love the video – on the tip of goofy femininity, I thought I’d throw Ann-Margret into the mix too!! Here’s hoping Minnie and Daisey are also having as much fun with it as Ann and Hayley!! 🙂
